This journey through the Mavrovo National Park offers a unique combination of untouched nature, spiritual serenity, and traditional Macedonian architecture.
1. Departure from Ohrid (Morning)
- Group gathering and departure towards Mavrovo via Debar. The route leads through the stunning Radika River gorge, where nature is at its most picturesque.
2. Visit to the Monastery of St. Jovan Bigorski
- Arrival at one of the most beautiful and significant monasteries in the Balkans (11th century).
- Activities: A tour of the monastery complex, famous for its unique iconostasis handcrafted in woodcarving by Macedonian masters. Learn about the monastery’s history and enjoy the spiritual peace and the view toward Mount Korab.
3. Mavrovi Anovi and Lake Mavrovo
- Arrival in Mavrovi Anovi, the heart of the national park.
- Sightseeing: A visit to the famous submerged church “St. Nicholas” in Lake Mavrovo (depending on the water level).
- Free Time: A walk along the lake or an opportunity for a short mountain hike in the fresh air.
4. Lunch Time
- Organized lunch in one of the traditional restaurants in Mavrovi Anovi (optional). Recommendation: try the renowned Mavrovo white cheese, yellow cheese (kashkaval), and trout.
5. Return to Ohrid
- Group gathering and departure back to Ohrid in the late afternoon. Arrival in the evening hours.
